ETFuels Selected by Q8Aviation for proposed long-term e-SAF supply in the UK

Q8Aviation and ETFuels mark the selection of ETFuels for proposed long-term e-SAF supply from Project Kings Road Humber.

Q8Aviation and ETFuels mark the selection of ETFuels for proposed long-term e-SAF supply from Project Kings Road Humber.

ETFuels today announced that Q8Aviation has selected the company for the long-term supply of power-to-liquid sustainable aviation fuel (“e-SAF”) from Project Kings Road Humber, its planned methanol-to-jet facility at the Port of Immingham. The parties are now progressing negotiations towards a long-term binding offtake agreement.

ETFuels’ Project Kings Road Humber has 70 kt per annum planned production capacity for the UK and European aviation markets; the selection represents an important step towards its commercialisation by demonstrating prospective customer demand, supporting the project’s pathway to final investment decision and contributing to the development of domestic UK e-SAF production capacity.

Demand for synthetic aviation fuels is expected to increase as the UK SAF Mandate and ReFuelEU Aviation introduce progressively higher requirements for these fuels alongside significant penalties for non-compliance.

Q8Aviation selected ETFuels following a detailed assessment of potential supply partners, evaluating project maturity, feedstock strategy, cost competitiveness, compliance robustness and deliverability.

Project Kings Road Humber combines a UK location with ETFuels’ integrated global e-fuels platform. Located at the Port of Immingham - the project is expected to benefit from deep-water access, established fuel infrastructure and direct connection into the UK’s 2,000 km aviation-fuel pipeline network. This is complemented by ETFuels’ access to highly competitive e-methanol from its own US production portfolio, underpinned by world-class behind-the-meter renewable resources and highly favourable US hydrogen production incentives. Together, this combination of project maturity, advantaged feedstock and an integrated development model is expected to provide a differentiated pathway to delivering compliant e-SAF at scale and at globally competitive cost subject to verification of relevant technical, commercial and regulatory assumptions.

“Q8Aviation’s selection of ETFuels is a major commercial milestone for Project Kings Road Humber. Securing long-term, bankable offtakes is fundamental to bringing new e-SAF capacity to final investment decision, and this proposed partnership moves Kings Road Humber materially closer to FID. We are proud to be working with Q8Aviation to turn the UK’s ambition for domestic e-SAF production into investable projects and, ultimately, fuel in the market.”
Lara Naqushbandi, CEO ETFuels

“This selection marks an important step in our strategy to power the sustainable growth of global aviation and secure long-term access to e-SAF for our customers,” said Adam Harrison, Q8Aviation Commercial Director. “As the market moves from policy ambition to commercial execution, we look forward to being able to support the development of e-SAF production capacity while helping our customers meet their decarbonisation objectives.”
